Acknowledgement does not equal existence.

Our peoples have been here for millennia.

Our roots are as deep as time is eternal.

Indigenous peoples in this province have been forced from their land and separated from their families. Assimilation has contributed to the destruction of language and the devastation of communities.

Our traditions persisted, our people are resilient, and we grow stronger as communities every day. We are awakening our spirits, finding our true voice and supporting one another as we rebuild stronger communities.

We are tet; mâni; ute | here.

When Newfoundland joined Canada in 1949, it was stated that there were ‘no indians’ here, therefore no ‘indian problem’ for the federal government to acquire. Through intergenerational resiliency, transmission of knowledge and skill, and strength of community and identity, I am saying we were, and still are, tet; mâni; une | here
